2005-03-01 - 9:09 p.m. - 30-something

Today is my last day in this decade of life...30-something...Tomorrow in my mind I will still be "30-something", but that "something" will be "+ 10".

40...it's one of my favorite U2 songs...it's also one of my favorite psalms which just so happens to be what U2 based the lyrics on for "40".

I never would have dreamed I'd be celebrating it in a foreign country and among friends who have known me a mere 6 months...then again, I never dreamed about my 40th birthday. For some odd reason, I always thought I'd die young - I have no idea why...perhaps it was working with people with AIDS for a couple of years and seeing so many of them leave this world long before their prime. I guess it taught me not to take this life for granted.

I had set a goal about five years ago to set foot on every continent by the time I was 40. Well, I have one more to go, but I don't know if I'll get to Antarctica within the next 12 months, so I might just have to extend the deadline on that one. I'm O.K. with that though because I have a feeling I will get there some day...someday when I'm "30-something". :)
