2004-07-14 - 11:36 a.m. - kitten therapy Yesterday during my errands, I stopped by the Humane Society for some kitten therapy. There were only a few kittens there, and two sibling ones were part Siamese and reminded me a bit of Opal. Of course I wanted to see one of them - the one not sleeping. I didn't tell the animal handler person I was just there for therapy - some things are better left unsaid. I got to see both the kittens (who were about 2 1/2 months old) since the other one had woken up. They had the blue eyes, cream colored bodies and gray faces and tails. There's something really calming having a kitten curl up on your lap and purr while you gently scratch around its ears. The female one was content hanging out on my lap while the male one swatted a fuzz ball from the end of a wooden pole I was holding. Then the female one got a bit more curious and started becoming more playful as well. Both loved trying to grab the little ball in the plastic donut-shaped toy. They really were precious. I was asked if I was interested in them. I replied that I thought they were adorable but wasn't going to be able to get one today. I didn't say it would be at least a year or two when I'm back in the country before I could get another one. I guess that's a good thing, because I kept comparing them to Opal, and they didn't measure up. It must be too early for me at this point to get a new one - even if I was staying in the country. I left with a smile on my face - a better feeling than the last time when tears were falling as I donated items left over after Opal's death. As I drove out of the parking lot and turned on the radio, the Beatle's "In My Life" had just begun. For Opal - "In my life, I'll love you more..."
