I confess I caught "Idol" fever this year. I hadn't watch it the previous two seasons save for the last 10 minutes or so when I was getting ready to watch my Tues. night show, "24".

I started watching it this year during the try-outs and got hooked.

The first time I heard Fantasia perform in the final 12, I was pretty much blown away by her voice and stage presence.

I voted for the first time last week to make sure she got to the final round. Getting through on the phone lines wasn't as hard as I thought it might be, so I made sure Fantasia received a couple of votes from me last night. Then as I was lying in bed, I decided I should call one more time - just to be sure. I got through right away so I called again, and again, and again, and again for a total of 12 times. A dozen should do it, and it did. :)

(Aside: I really wish I could vote like this in November's Presidental election! Bush would have no chance with my speed dial.)

After being awarded the title of American Idol tonight, Fantasia's tears during her singing of "I Believe" brought tears to my eyes. She was a struggling, single mom who worked hard, believed in herself, and has now achieved her dream.

Congratulations, Fantasia, for your hard earned title. You are more than deserving of it for you are loaded with talent and personality - you go, girl!!!
