2004-03-08 - 11:17 p.m. - Y oh Y do I have two X chromosomes??

"Y oh Y do I have two X chromosomes?? Y not a Y for me? For if I had a Y I’d be a guy and then maybe one would fall for me."

That little ditty there is "Teop’s Lament" written in honor of the beautiful gay men I saw last night at this cool bar called The Holocene. The event at the club was called "The Wedding Party" to celebrate all the same-sex marriages occurring in Multnomah County. An additional purpose for the event was to raise money for the Human Rights Campaign & Lambda Legal Defense Fund - both of which will need lots of dough to battle Bush and his ridiculous idea of amending the Constitution.

My favorite "local" actor (and I lament the fact that he’s no longer local) Wade McCollum, flew in from LA to host the event and even did one number, "The Origin of Love" before turning the floor over to a DJ. I briefly spoke with Wade (who was so sweet to give me a big hug) and asked him if he had moved to LA permanently. He said something to the effect that he’s no where permanently. He’s now down in LA getting ready to perform in Hedwig. The show is at The Celebration Theater in West Hollywood (on 7051 Santa Monica Blvd.) and is running from 4/16 – 5/30/04. If you live anywhere near the place, GO!!!! I know nothing of the rest of the cast, and interestingly enough, unlike the shows here where it was pretty much Wade (as Hedwig) and a back-up band, the theater in LA is casting each individual role (i.e. Hedwig’s mother, Tommy Gnosis, etc…) which will be quite different. Nevertheless, with Wade in the lead role, you can’t go wrong. Just GO. He’s that good.

Thus the first reason for "Teop’s Lament". The second reason was "The Hula Hoop Boys". Oh….my…..God….these two guys are so sexy the way they dance and do the hula hoop, it just makes me wet. I am serious. I’ve seen them perform a couple of times before, but it was always with the Dandy Warhols and from a distance on stage. Last night they were on the dance floor right in front of me doing their thing to a rhythmic piece of music. Their hoops seem to go around them effortlessly and they slither like snakes that would tempt even a nun out of her habit. They intertwine with each other at times and have a subtle S&M thing going (which I’m not really into in most other realms, but here they do it for me!)

I had asked one of them if they had a card and if they ever performed at parties. He (Chad) said that they hadn’t performed in a couple of years and just started doing it again. He gave me his cell number and if I’m brave enough, I just might call them to perform at a party I want to throw before I leave the country! Wouldn’t that be fun?!!

So why the lament? Of course, they’re gay!

"Y oh Y do I have two X chromosomes?? Y not a Y for me? For if I had a Y I’d be a guy, then maybe one would fall for me."
