2004-01-11 - 6:51 p.m. - hannon le, hannon le, hannon le for "The Return of the King"

I just came back from a magnificent cinematic experience – saw Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. I am in awe of the story itself and the parallels to the time in which it was written. I am in awe of the acting – the fellowship of the ring cast….I am in awe of the directing and how such a story was translated onto the big screen…I am in awe of the visual effects – especially the amazing battle scenes and of course, Gollum.

And all the emotions I experienced in 3.5 hours! I actually cheered out loud when Aragorn arrived in the ships fortified by the dead souls – the Dimholt, that were fighting to regain their honor. I (and many others in the audience) cheered again when the Legolas took down that elephant and the warriors on it and laughed seconds later when Gimli said it only counts as one. I was cringing with fear when Sam was battling the spider. I was exuberant when Eowyn killed that Witch King creature that said, "You fool! No man can kill me"…."I am no man". I was ready to fall off my seat with anxiety...just drop the ring, Frodo!!! I cried when Aragorn said to the four hobbits – "you shall bow to no one". And I cried again when they said their farewells – especially Frodo and Sam…my tears were streaming with theirs.

I am exhausted now, and I am still in awe. The movie is brilliant and I’d rank it up there as one of the best I have ever seen.

Hannon le, Hannon le, Hannon le… Thank you, thank you, thank you to Peter Jackson and the whole cast, and of course, to J.R.R. Tolkien.
